any stampings on the back side that would help the experts...personally I wouldn't have a clue..my old issue buckles were stamped "brass" and then the manufacturer....
I have 2 buckles similar to this that I think are authentic, at least they look old. In both cases, the winged propeller symbol is larger (nearly touching the edges of the buckle) and they look to be brass plated steel. Here is a similar one:
I suspect many variations are out there since they were a private purchase item. On the other hand, I have also seen some repros listed on eBay. The fact that someone probably rubbed the brass plating off of yours makes me think it is more likely authentic.
Being silver colored, it is likely USAF rather than AAF....though I have seen CAP buckles that were WWII and silver that were similar. The CAP used a slightly different wing prop, and it is pretty common to see AAF pattern ones in all silver being used instead.
