37J1 on John Wayne in "Wings of the Navy"

Stumbled upon the DVD of that movie by accident today and had to give it a quick run...
Came across the scene in the end where the character played by Wayne retires and leaves his command on board a carrier bestowed with all honours. Wayne is wearing a beautifully aged 37J1 jacket...

That's what Iove about these old movies...old ships, planes and gear...

Nice looking jacket .. I’m surprised they found one that fit him as he was 6’ 4” and about 215lbs. A pretty big guy for back in those days.

I read somewhere - might be even here - that this could have been the same jacket he wore in "They were expendable" and that it was a personalized jacket done to his customized measurements which he kept afterwards rather than a general issue one...
