Could this be a relined, re-knitted issue Cooper? Look at the zipper and other pattern details.

or is it just a private purchase/post war type?

The pocket corners look too bevelled to be an original Cooper, so I vote post-war type... perhaps from the 1950s?

My guess is that the jacket dates from the mid to late 1940s. The style of Talon zipper is often found on garmets from 1943 onwards. The jacket does not emulate the house style of any particular maker. There were many makers who never received government contracts yet made decent A2s like this one to be purchased privately.

IMHO, top end manufacturers like GW aside, if you're looking for an authentically styled A-2 (manufactured using period materials/methods), but are not wedded to a particular contract then this looks like a good way to go.

True, but only if the price is dropped quite a bit.
