If I remember right there was still an old airstrip there in the 1970s and we used to do touch and goes there.

You remember correctly, my friend. In fact, the old Oak Grove field has now been expanded and is currently being used by Osprey and other USMC rotary aircraft.

This is what it looked like in the mid-seventies when you were here. In those days it hadn't changed since WWII. The old tarmac, where the above Corsair photo was taken, is clearly visible at the lower right.
