Hi everyone!

I am new here, and new to the vintage jacket world, but I really like them.
I have read articles on internet and posts here to try to educate myself as much as I could but Im still early on in my adventure so still very much a noob. Would love to learn from you guys!

I’ve acquired a G1 in the past, which I really like, however its only now that Im curious about its history. I was wondering if you knew what was this patch? (with the USN Skull)
I mean, as its paint, I guess it has probably less of a standardized meaning than the embroided ones, but maybe there is info about it ?
Also, the inside has been redone, so the tag isn’t there, so cant really know the contract, size, type etc. But I assume it’s a G1. Would anyone have any hypothesis about it.
Also how much do you think it would be worth?

I have also noticed a circular form on the right pocket. Any Idea what would that come from?

My best guess is its late 50’s or more like 60’s going by pocket flap shape and collar style and lining (if original)but never seen that label which is not military spec nor that zipper pull, albeit that may have been replaced at some point in its lifetime. The USN stencil looks unusually large too but I’m sure there are more knowledgeable here to shed more light on it. Value wise its hard to price as G1’s both original and repro are quite plentiful and many in better condition too. Ultimately its only worth what someones prepared to pay but it looks decent enough to refurb it if that’s your desire?

Just an observation The label appears to be hand sewn (re-sewn) other than across the top. Is the top machine stitched part still attached? Is there evidence of it being a replacement although I don't know why someone would do that.
Sorry, my flight jacket knowledge is quite limited, but I also noticed the there are both a USN stencil as well as a perforated USN. My understanding is that the two don't coexist. I am, however, happy to be corrected

This example seems to be a G-1 from late 60's by looking at the collar. Probably a Brill Bros or Star. They monkyed around with this jacket by stenciling the USN under the collar, and adding that label to the liner. That label was originally sewn inside the pocket of some WWII M-models. They replaced the zipper pull and the knits as well. I don't have any info about the patch, it could be original or not, but all these alterations led me to believe it is not. As far as the value, the authencity of this jacket has been compromised totally.

As a side note, Cagleco from mid 50's has some examples with both USN stencil and USN perforation on the same jacket. @tda003

Jorge,

Thank you. It's always my pleasure to acquire new knowledge.

Sometimes what starts out innocently by one person is corrupted by another. For example, boring a hole in the right place on an early model '03 Springfield turns an unsafe wall hanger into what appears to be a highly sought after USMC rifle used by the Corps used through Guadalcanal to someone not knowing what to look for.

Besides my G-1 with goatskin and genuine mouton, I have one with goatskin and a Dynel collar in quite nice condition although not a collectable item. I was going to replace with mouton to use as a beater for truly nasty conditions. However, somewhere down the line (closer daily) a label change by an unscrupulous person could enhance its value to an unwary buyer. So, not happening. Apparently, that's what's going on here. It's certainly happened to me once or twice.
