Hi Guy’s :)

In an effort to put a little more of the V into VLJ, just wanted to post a couple of different styles of vintage USN jackets for your viewing pleasure . The first one is an excellent condition Willis & Geiger M-422a jacket . The goatskin is the thinner type used during WWII and has aged beautifully with a Golden tone in some places . The ribbed rack knits are in great condition and original to the jacket .
One of the differences between the M-422 and the M-422a was the addition of a slit for a pencil holder in the pocket of the M-422a as seen below . The mouton collar has faded to a beautiful shade of honey over the years .

The next jacket is an early 1950s Pritzker .
The jacket was one of the earliest of the beginning of the G-1 line of USN jackets
The jacket looks very similar to the M-422a but has a rounded collar as opposed to the pointed collar on the M-422a . The mouton collar has turned a Golden color as well . The knits are also similar to th M-422a ribbed rack knits .

The next jacket is a Vietnam war vintage Martin Lane jacket . About 1969-1970 vintage time frame . You can see that there are a number of differences from the other two . The collar is more reddish color and the knits are no longer the ribbed rack style . The wind flap has USN perforations in place of USN painted on the back of the collar. The paper clip zip puller and heavier zipper has taken over from the lighter talon zip .

Lastly is a more modern G-1 from around the 1999 time frame . It’s made by the Excelled company and the jacket is leather, not the goatskin we like to see . Additional notice the short rounded collar of the jacket . Not the Mouton that we like but man made material.
Hope you guys enjoyed the brief show . Please feel free to post any of your original USN 422, 422A or G-1 type jackets of any period . Please let’s keep this thread down to original jackets not repros.
Cheers

AN found at a garage sale in the early 80s. Aviator was on the USS Guadalcanal in the Atlantic -- part of the group that captured the U-505 now on display at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry.

Jacket's really beat and unwearable, but it's so cool to have a piece of history like this.

It's an AN-6552 -- note the US, not USN on the collar.

Someone a while ago pointed out that only one maker used yellow on the collar stencil, but I can't remember which one.

Tag was long gone, and the lining a mess when I got it. Always wanted to refurbish it, but life (and money) got in the way.

@B-Man2 -- here's the Monarch; in an early 50s G-1. Got this on eBay a long time back for a very decent price. Knits were shot, so I had Flight Suits replace them with the knits they used on their M422a, which had carried over to the early G-1s. They did a very good job, IMO.

Yeah, the collar is showing its age, but I wear this every now and again in rotation.
