Top Five Manufacturers

Hi All,

It was a hazy, hot day here in Toronto - we're getting smoke from the wildfires out west - hope everyone is well and safe.

So I know what I'm about to ask is entirely subjective but is there an agreed upon top five list of jacket manufacturers? I know of Lost Worlds, The Real McCoy's, Thedi, Aero, Lewis Leathers, Schott, Langlitz, and Freewheelers, which means I'm probably missing at least a dozen other great ones from around the world.

That said, is there an agreed upon top five, or top half dozen that consistently get everyone wound up?

If I gave everyone $2,000 and said they had to go out and buy a jacket where's the first place everyone would head? By the way, I'm not doing that, the giving of the money part - would love to but there's an awful lot of you.

But I would appreciate everyone's thoughts, and maybe a bit about why they'd choose that manufacturer over another. Looking forward to speaking soon, enjoy the rest of the day.

  • Himel Bros.
  • Good Wear
For leather jackets generally, those two routinely end up in the top five.

Just counting militaria, my list, in order, would be:
  • Good Wear
  • Dave Sheeley
  • (Real McCoy New Zealand - now defunct)
  • Bill Kelso Mfg./Platon's Dubow
  • Eastman Leather Clothing
  • Buzz Rickson

Thanks for the addition of Himel Bros, living in Toronto I can't believe I forgot them. Noteworthy that there are military jacket specialists and then riding and general designers as well.

Yeah, there's definite cliques within this hobby. A big dividing line is how far accuracy matters to you. Depending on the answer to that question, Real McCoy Japan (the branch of the company that's still selling stuff) might be near the top of your list, or it might not even make the list.

The Real McCoy's Buco J-31 is my favourite, that thing is next level. I understand what you mean about accuracy - that said, I like the fact that companies offer military, moto, and general design jackets. Something for everyone.
