Superb photography, nor do you often see In the mainstream images of this facet of the war, there must be lots still out there, unpublished. I guess after the devastation of 2 world wars, people didn't want to see or know, can't say I blame 'em

Looking at scenes like this I'm always amazed how people managed to continue to inhabit these ruins and how they rebuilt them in a relatively short time. I imagine by the 50's much of it was rebuilt. Where do you start? The challenge of removing so much rubble, where do you put it, sorting for bodies, the destruction of family treasures and rebuilding. No wonder so many left to live elsewhere.

Funny how (to me anyway) the color picture of the GIs in the ruins looks staged because it's not black and white. How did those re-enactors find that devastation to pose in front?
