yeah, i saw that one this morning.. one of the patches covers a pretty big hole. dunno about the other. most of the war time repairs i have see, were done from the inside, though field repairs were an anything goes. too bad, cause it looks pretty damn nice otherwise. ps: it looks like it has been gooped at some point.

I bet the carrying of 50 calibers from the armoury to the aircraft was the reason for the holes .

if this were my size, I would buy it - I LOVE the patina - I could live with the forearms. the kind of patina that can't be duplicated!

The seller claims the patches cover holes for the aircraft heater. The patches are in the same position on both sleeves suggesting perhaps they made for a purpose rather than damage through use. I suppose the connectors from a heater suite might have been pulled through the holes if the A2 was worn over it. What do others here think?

I agree with Simon this a very fine contract and my favourite one from Aero.

A word about the where the electrically heated suit connections cords , it obviously wasnt used with the F3 and F3a suit as the connection cord is at waist level and the glove connections are tabs from the upper part of the suit at the wrists
also the same for the F2 suit set up

Now the F1 suit , that could be the reason for the "holes" as the glove connectors are placed up from the wrist knits and look to be in the right position for the patches on this A2

Just my humble non educated opinion

That's a fun theory. Little buddy's explanation might make sense. I too can't think of any reason why two patches would have been sewn in the same general area on each arm. Definitely not a result of general wear and tear, unless the flyer had a habit of gnawing away at his wrists.
