Spotted a very dark seal Fried Osterman Co. Type A-2 on ebay...

Hello,

Missing tag, with probably new knits (unusually very dark) and leather has it's issues. Small size at a good price.

Looks like a depot re-dye to me. Kind of a neat jacket, although, as you said, the shell has issues. Are you sure it's F-O though? It doesn't have the double-wide leather strip where the knits meet the zipper. Looks like a Rough Wear 18091 to me.

Yes I noticed the extra strip missing at the zip flap but everything else is there, goat, pocket shape, Square brass Talon M-39...

I think you are right, depot redye, we clearly see the demarcation inside the pocket.

Oh, and just noticed that the shoulder seam is not centered under the epaulette, like a Fried should. The more I study the images the more I doubt my initial call.

I’d still say RW 18091. That contract was made of goatskin too, the pockets match and the zipper is a near-match: M-39 chocolate bar, but nickel-plated. It could just be that the nickel plating mostly wore away from use.

The label stitch leftover is also wrong shape for Fried...

Yeah and the collar is spot on with RW 18091 in Eastman book... + details here & there matches RW. Good eye!

Thanks! I got some experience looking at F-O details last year in the "Stump the VLJ thread," when I completely flubbed it and thought a Fried-Ostermann was an Aero 16160. o_O

Definitely a redye, going by the pocket interior. I reckon the zip is nickel too-not bright, but you can see the contrast with the brass showing through.
