Did anyone notice who this is? Gawd- I noticed it right away!!!
It is movie star Jack Palance, who was a bomber pilot in WWII.
According to a website honoring movie celebrities that flew in B-24s, Palance burned his face severely while bailing out of a B-24 which was on fire during a training flight in Tucson in 1942 (that would probably have been the Davis-Monthan Army Air Corps base at that time) and after several surgeries was discharged in 1944. He is described as a "pilot in training".

Certainly looks like him. Amazingly straight nose for a former pro boxer !

Hey thanks Marcel,
That's the "Double Wallop" , 388th BG/562nd SQ, lost to flak on mission to Munich 31 Jul 44 - 8 POW. No navigator on this mission, Crider crew (MACR 7746). My dad was a navigator with the 563rd and I am an associate member and past president...

I believe the last bomb exiting the B-17 is possibly an M-79 Cluster/Fragmentation bomb.
Cheers,
Don
