So what are you planning to buy this year ?

Any thoughts one what you would like this year ?
I have lowered my sights somewhat and am concentrating on home grown jackets, at least for the foreseeable future. The Few B-1 has unfortunately been cancelled, but I have persuaded Aero to make one for me probably from Vintage HH. A Hartmann from Eastman in brown aniline steer hide is another possibility.
The time for new purchases from the UK might be in the next few weeks as imported horse hide can only become more expensive as the pound falls lower.

John,

happy new year!

The recent exchange rates in favour of the EUR compared to the GBP will certainly support ELC's European, non-UK business, and the orders from the US.

For me, living in Germany, the next jacket will probably be an ELC Werber A-2.

Probably an Aero custom made jacket based on an AN6552 pattern
I was thinking about dark russet Buffalo hide with alpaca lining, not sure about mouton and knits colour.
NOS brass Conmar zip (provided by me) and A-2 waistband type.

hello John,

i dream of an authentic WWII era A2 with original painted back and/or also a shearling with also painted back.
or a splendid jacket or two or more made by J C, an Amelia look, or A1 or ANJ3....
but only a dream regarding my uncomfortable situation due to my move and selling of my second house.
when this will be done, i think i will make myself a big pleasure....but for sure not this time, nor this year.

I'm trying to convince myself that I have enough jackets and that another jacket (not counting the GW A2 which is in the mail) is not going to make me any happier. We'll see how long it lasts.

Probably nothing this year-I am trying to cut back on purchasing anything, as we are moving to Florida, and I can't justify it right now.

After a year in Florida, not sure where we'll end up, so I am not certain I'd need a sheepskin, though something like an ANJ-4 is tempting this time here in Boston...

Last purchase was a Few A-1 from Bevan, and I haven't even really worn it yet

Probably no nice jackets this year. If all the stars align properly, I would like to build a small barn with a music room (and bar) in the loft. Not yet sure how that will all pan out. If it doesn't, maybe I can placate myself with an Aero half-belt of some sort.

Hi Chris,

There must quite significant cultural/climatic differences between Boston and Florida, how will you wear jackets in all that heat ?
Hope it all works out well for you, remember jackets can be moth balled.

As 2008 was a real annus horibilis ( to quote HM the Queen) for me I would like to get that adrenelin-rush that a new flight jacket brings but also waiting to see if another Springsteen tour is on the cards as that will need my finance and attention as usual! Overseas buying for we Brits is going to be nigh-on impossible thanks to our currency being shot to pieces against the USD, Euro etc; hopefully Eastman will continue to surprise us with a new release / hide. I agree with John that buying from 'home' will be the way for a while yet. If I am allowed a dream wish it would be to find the A-2, a CBI ATC named to R.N. Willis that I owned and lent to the late Pete Farndon of the Pretenders back in 1980/81, it was passed on somewhere amongst the collectors around London at the time and I would love to be re-united as it held many fabulous memories. probably in some Jap collection I expect.

Other than the GW Doniger already paid for and due in the next few weeks, I think I'll wait for John to do an AN-J-3. Until then, I'll just enjoy what I have.

Happy 2009 to all!

No repros for 2009. I've got pretty much all I need right now.
If any nice original WWII cloth or Korean War nylons come up,
I may give them a look. Other than that, I'm just enjoying what
I have. A large size minty original B-15C would be nice though!!

If there was a person who had quite a large shearling collection and who might one day be interested in an A2, what would be a good one to start with ?

I still would like to have one of these...in this configuration....
http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/7487901 or maybe just the standard jacket....or another B6..that I find I wear the most during Indiana winter weather(maybe a redskin to contrast with my seal?)....or a capeskin A1. I really NEED none of these...but it is always just so damn tempting....

Van, I like that one the fqhh is amazing. Specially the smell.
One of the real strong points of Aero is their willingness to do custom work.

I'm working with Roberto to create a new custom Italian flight jacket with only Falco patches. A fun one of a kind jacket as it is the jacket I wear most often....Other than that , I'm broke!!!!!!

for a dark I would go for a star (if grainy or creased is your thing suggest warhorse or 50 cal if they do it,) star has a nicer fit than many.. if not then their own brand 50 cal. go up a size.

for lighter, a nice pebbly goat Cable. if smoother is the order of the day a nice Monarch minus the inner pockets. The monarch is esily the most supple jacket they do and has a pleasnly matte finish compared to some jackets. superbly comfortable.

my only planned purchases are likely to be an early nylon, light or heavy in Olive drab. later in the year.
