Item # 200553612266
Very good condition marked size 46 L.W. Foster 7823 (AER) series G-1 Navy goatskin flight jacket.
Leather in excellent condition. No cracking or flaking. Appears that the lining, waistband (rib-rack) and cuffs are original. Lining has small repairable tear near manufacturer's label (in picture #8). Mouton is original. One very barely noticeable balding spot near right tip. No discernible "USN" stencil on back of collar. "USN" punched into windflap (picture #6). Appears to be nickel Conmar zipper. Could be a replacement as there appears to be double-stitching. One button missing on right pocket (picture #4).
Overall - very good condition for a jacket more than half a century old, but is broken in nicely. Not fragile at all and could be a daily wearer.
Shoulders - 19 inches
Back length (bottom of mouton collar to end of waistband) - 24 inches.
pit-to-pit - 23 inches
Zipper length - 22
Manufacturer's Label reads:
BUREAU OF AERONAUTICS USN
FLIGHT JACKET, INTERMEDIATE, G-1
SPECIFICATION NO. MIL-J-7823 (AER)
L.W. FOSTER SPORTSWEAR CO., INC.
CONTRACT NO. DA-36-243-QM (CTM) 2134
SIZE 46
The Navy contract under which this jacket was procured constituted the first revision of the G-1 series which began with specification "55J14" in 1947. The 7823-series began during the Korean War in about 1951/52 and continued until 1960, while Eisenhower was still President. In 1961 the next series (7823A) was introduced.
Christmas is coming up so buy the present you've always wanted for yourself. Why buy a reproduction for more money when you can actually own the real thing. This jacket was issued to a new USN or USMC pilot back when Panthers and Corsairs were still flying off of USS Randolph, Boxer, Princeton, Kearsarge and Essex. In the holiday spirit, this jacket is offered WITHOUT a reserve price - so have at it and good luck!
