San Diego Leather Question

A neighbor offered me an unusual G-1 type jacket (Free!). The label states that it's a Ml-J-78233 (WEP) which I've never come across before. Actually "ML" not MIL. Collar is mouton. Guessing the leather to be cowhide and thin and unstamped, almost vinyl-like. The wind flap is stamped USCG. No marking on the zipper. Loop for hanging. Does anyone have any experience with this company?

San Diego leather is a low grade producer of not so accurate flying jackets. A friend of mine had one in the late 1980s. We joked about that since he also had a nearly unworn original Dubow A-2 his dad had from his time in the ArmyAir Corps.

I had one of their cowhide G-1 jackets in the late 90s...it was actually my first flight jacket ever, and the one that basically started the hobby for me. Got it on a trip to California right after University graduation, so the budget was kinda tight.

I did sell it two or three years later, not because it was a bad jacket, but because I turned into a snobbish little ba***rd, who thought only ELC and upwards is "real"...

It went to a friend and was twice forwarded to his sons....as far as I know it, they still wear it regularly.
