Really eBay?

ebay getting too big for its boots? maybe time for a competitor to take advantage, and begin where ebay once started...

a similar thing happening in the stock library world. I gave up on stock photography because they kept raising the contributors fees. it started 10 years ago at 30% commision, now its 60% and rumoured to advance soon. Now sell stock on my site, not worth my time doing the editing and such for a meagre return.

As far as I remember on ebay.com the fee already applies to the shipping cost too.
On the local sites - at least on ebay.it - we had higher fees, but they were applied only to the selling price.
Now it seems that ebay.com is rising fees again up to the higher local level, and the practice to apply tit to the shipping, which is NOT a profit for the seller - is very, very unfair.
Of course they claim they're doing it to promote the "free shipping" option...

Maybe playing the devil's advocate here but eBay is still cheaper than any auction house where their fees for sellers and buyers average 15-20%. however, it should not include the postage amounts and sadly, yes, it may give reasons for an increase in ending auctions early which I have fought against many times here. Then again, that may be benefitting traditional miltaria dealers who regularly list items with fixed prices on their own websites. Unfortunately in all the years eBay has been growing there is still no viable, good competitor out there reaching the world-wide market eBay does

Yup, but I still feel like I can't live without them. However, I'm am finding ways to not depend on them completely. Teaming up with Jim / jbmilart was a start and we are growing leaps and bounds by being google searchable.

Also, a lot of my customers are repeat buyers and contact me directly already, Ebay helps facilitate that with an initial sale and email address. I go out of my way to offer a discount and encourage direct contact and off site sales straight away by contacting new Ebay buyers through their personal email. So thanks Ebay for the lead, enjoy the extra 25 cents on the limited sales I allow you to tap. I will continue to view you much in the same way you view me.

If you are referring to the traditional auction houses, those do not have the hundreds of millions customers that ebay has.
Ebay fees should be something like 1% total.

Greedy. This will simply add to buying selling off eBay and auctions ending early to avoid fees.

Didn't notice you comment before I posted John, but you got it. I just use them for what they're good for, first sale and contact. Who needs them after that? I can't find a single feature that is conducive to ordering custom work, no pictures unless listed, and I have to send an email in code to anyone contacting me through them or they're auto seek and destroy will blank out the message. I started making a list of ebay names / emails, in case the customer didn't save mine. All of this is fixed price so it doesn't really affect those who take the plunge and put money on an auction, but I'm not sure I can blame anyone who tries to evade by ending an auction either. I just consider the hefty fee as a standard finders fee.

Don't see why just because they have millions of customers they should only be charging a miniscule fee, they aren't any different to any major business, after all, the banks don't reduce their charges just because they are a global company..just ask Barclays! (fees to businesses for paying money in etc).
Ebay is cheaper than other auction businesses but I too don't like the recent price increases.
