Certainly looks like it could have been a retailed example of a wartime/surplus jacket.
Almost convinced that I could see the outline of a removed issued label.
Either way, a very nice jacket that went low...

I agree with Ian. It looks like a later War AN-J-3A that was sold off with a commercial label. Perhaps part of a contract over-run. Nevertheless it is far rarer than most issued naval goatskin jackets from the same period. Someone got a bargain.

Agree with the above. A look behind the collar would provide the proof. Shame you didn't bid a little higher.

Thanks gents, I thought I'd made a mistake and you've confirmed it, but then again buying from the US can be quite punishing if you end up paying the UK import duty VAT and Parcelforce handling fee. I'll try to persuade myself that the snipe bidder who got it would have paid lots more- they may have been a member here perhaps? Cheers Rob.

That is one interesting jacket and it looks mint. It is a W&G M-422A that was sold to the civilian market under a different label. I wish I had seen that one :)
