I'm in the process of buying a RM copy of a Rough Wear jacket sight unseen...except for pics and I've never seen a RM in person...heck, I've never seen 99% of the jackets discussed here except in pics, so I don't know if it'll fit. This RM jacket is a size 42 and pre-aged/distressed. My favorite fitting A-2 is a size 40 ELC, so I hope this jacket will fit OK. The only other 'quality' repro I own is an Aero in size 44, it fits sorta ok, a little roomy, but I bought it for the artwork on the back and not actually to wear. In a 1990's made Cooper A-2, I can wear a size 40, but I prefer a size 42. In a G-1 jacket, my favorite jacket is probably a size 40, don't know for sure as there's no tag. I own a couple of G-1s size 42s and they're roomier and ok for a 'modern' looser fit.

Until JC came on the scene RMNZ's jackets were in my opinion the mark.I own a few,RW included, but my fav is the Monarch.Thats a real piece of work.My experience is that they fit almost true to size,my size anyway.I dont think that you will be dissappointed with your selection. The RMNZ A2 is the best.......not withstanding John's creations.IMHO.

Then it should be okay, a RM 42 is roughly equivalent to an ELC 40. The RW from Real McCoy's is a trickier fit than the Monarch, or the Dubow, partly because of the collar stand.

On me it pulled up, and out at the back, from the high cut armhole ... leaving a gap between the collar, and neck. I settled for the Dubow, but others have no such problem, and it's a great jacket.

Thanks for the input, RM A-2s are pretty rare on e-Bay, much less one in a size 40 0r 42. In your opinions, what would be the going price of a this model RM ? Seller said it's 3 yrs old and hasn't been worn much and I have no reason not to believe him, he's been up front in his e-mails.

Also thanks to all the guys who told me not to buy that LW on e-Bay, that left me solvent enough to consider this RM

What is he asking ... and what is meant by pre-aged/distressed?

Has it been washed, and/or sandpapered?

I don't exactly know...I didn't ask, I just 'assumed' this was something done by RM.

I was never much of a discriminating A-2 manufacturer detail oriented kind'a guy...I wore, owned, Cooper goatskins, Avirex with hand warmer pockets with silk screened nose art on the back, and pretty much anything else that 'looked' like an A-2. I acquired my ELC A-2 in trade for a paint job and that was pretty much my 'bestest' A-2 for the last decade. I wore my other A-2s out and about more than the ELC, consigning the ELC to 'special' occasions because it was more expensive than the others. Until I joined this merry band, I didn't know what a GW, RMZ, RMJ, ELC or Aero was...and frankly still don't because I haven't seen or handled them all. All I know is that they're favored manufacturers amongst the forum consiglieri, who, through their collective experience in buying, selling, and handling these jackets, I trust to know of which they speak.

ps- I never dragged my levi's to get the 'look'...didn't have to, just went to yard sales and thrift shops and bought used levis... because I was so fiscally challenged in my youth, I was kinda proud to have a 'new' looking pair of jeans. In my old age, i now prefer the 'vintage' look and have been buying my levis at thrift shops again.

No, it's not something that RM would do, to me it looks like random damage ... not convincing.

I mean, if you like it, go for it, but be certain that it's exactly what you want, and that it will fit ... because it won't be easy to resell.

It could be RMJP...you sometimes find those leather shoulder roundels on their A-2's, and they may have done a pre-distressed one.

 From your comments I'm guessing that in your opinion, this jacket wouldn't be a good acquisition. I agree that there are issues with the bright and shiny 8th AF patch on an unconvincingly distressed leather jacket looks pretty lame, but there are other facets of this jacket that make it attractive for me to add to my 'collection'.

I'm sure that it's RMNZ, Miles ... it's their standard 16159 Rough Wear.

It's just my opinion, RCT ... and as I've already said if you like it, go for it.

Not a fan of the rough wear cut anyhow. thta excessive distressing will be fixed up nice with pecards because RMNZ horsehide is very forgiving and patinas as nicely as any leather i have seen.
