Painted D-1

I'd love to get that for my Dad. He was USAF in the early 50's (stationed in Bicester, UK) and was on the B-36 crews. My son is named Dakota, so it's perfect, if not a tad expensive :)

It's interesting to read that this aircraft was flown by George McGovern, who went on to run against Nixon for president in '72. I was five years old at the time, and I remember we had a chance to "fake" vote in our kindergarten class. I was the only kid who voted for McGovern. My mom told me I should. She said Nixon seemed crooked and untrustworthy. I saw many examples through the years of my mother's intuition of human character. She could spot a corrupt politician months or years before the scandal was revealed.

That's rather like finding a good looking woman in a Victoria's Secret ad :)

Would honestly like to get your Mum/Mom's slant on Australia's political 'heavyweights'.

Nice jacket, great artwork that must have been added quite late in the jacket's career. It's an early contract D-1 which must have gone through a depot re-furb due to the replaced zipper and decals added. Maybe the repairs were done at this point too.

This jacket is from the first ever D-1 contract which was awarded to San Antonio Air Depot in 1940. It has the stamped leather label as well as the cloth spec label.
