Gents,

Today I would like to share a interesting example of a named G-1 from the late 50's. This contract, DA-36-243-QM(CTM)2134, was awarded by L.W. Foster Sportswear Co., Inc. in fiscal year, 1958.

This jacket belonged to Maj. M. R. Stout, and although I have not found any info about him, the patches can tell a bit of his story. Apparently, he was assigned to the Marine Attack Squadron (VMA-223) "Bulldogs".

In August, 1957, the squadron was equipped with the North American FJ-4B Fury. A relatively short time later in January, 1961, the Fury was replaced by the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk.

In December, 1965, the "Bulldogs" once again were called upon for combat duty in the Far East. This time at Chu Lai, South Vietnam. Supporting allied ground forces, they flew more than 32,000 flight hours. In May, 1967, the squadron flew a record 1,234 combat sorties, by far the greatest monthly total for any attack squadron operating in Vietnam. In February, 1970, after nearly 5 1/2 years in the Far East, the "Bulldogs" were reassigned to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and returned to MCAS El Toro.

This jacket is in quite amazing condition, considering it's over 63 years old.
All parts are genuine to the jacket.
The goatskin leather is mint.
Mouton collar shows an amazing rusty chocolate shade.
Knits are solid and in great shape, which is very rare.
Blackened Conmar zipper is working perfectly.

Left chest depicts a leather name tag, printed “MAJ. M. R. STOUT USMC”.

Right chest depicts a Japanese-made "VMA-223" squadron patch.

Say no more guys, hope you guys enjoy it!

Regards,
Jorge

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful; and not just the jacket! ;)
Nothing more to say. Keep 'em coming!
I know you don't buy to wear, but more so to collect.
That said, I was wondering if you'd consider 'blousing' the jackets when wearing them for the fits pics for a more traditionally rakish devil-may-care pilot's look.
