Original 23rd Fighter Group Perry

Sure looks good but would want more info on such an important artifact.

The assumption alone without provenance doesn't warrant a higher bid IMO. This seller obviously knows of Gary's book so would likely also know that a little research/family contact, photo tracking could help increase the value of this piece exponentially. I suspect a dead end.

Great looking jacket for sure!

I'm not JDAM, but my thoughts..... patch is no good. Name strip doesn't look right either. Silk chit is good, but extremely late war (Number). Almost too late to be on a legit 23rd jacket. I hope I'm not hurting any feelings of someone here.

All has that recently applied look. This is the rayon MIS-2 Chit revised Type 2, it reads "The American Air Force" as opposed to the earlier version reading "This Foreign Person (American)" This is actually the earlier printing of this chit in particular as it lacks the number 2 in the bottom right corner. Also, it may just be very light and faded, but I don't even see a hint of the Chop.

The Perry is from their last contract which was awarded in June 1944, so its a late War A2. Although the patch appears to have been on the jacket for some time I am sceptical about it being worn on the jacket by a member of the 23rd FG in the War. The stitching looks as if has been painted black when the patch was sewn on the jacket to give the impression of age perhaps. I have failed to find Bryant in any rosters for this group, but will keep searching.

Oops, there is a (2) So even later than I thought, one of the easiest and most abundant Chits out there. Only chit I ever found out of a house was one of these. Just adds fuel to the fire as far as I'm concerned. Very questionable.

My initial response was much more critical but I erased the comments. Glad I'm not alone here.
