I'm not sure what that jacket is meant to be. Were A-1's made in wool like this ? If so, then it's a repro.

I've seen originals like this with odd knits, purples and reds or something like that mixed with OD. I think it was Army issue. Can't speak for this one though. It is strange that the knits needed replacement but the complete wool shell seems near perect.

Whats left of the original knit waist band is located at the front of the jacket, page 15 of the American flight jackets shows a wool A-1 jacket with this exact styling, and the identical ribboned waist knit. But I am no expert, and have not held the jacket in my hand to state it is a repro.

There was one of these jackets,in better condition,at the recent Inspiration vintage show at Long beach.Tried it on,fitted perfectly but,I am not going to spend $3500 on a civilian jacket!

The knit is almost identical to the one on ebay, so is the sleeve knits. The replacement of the waist knit could be a result of damage, not time worn reasons, that might account for the condition of the jacket, and the knit replacement.

Good point on the original waistband leftover. I saw one of these quite a while ago on Ebay, before the repop was out. Lots of odd things done in the military during the 20's and 30's. So who knows, living in the states where this stuff is most abundant and attending the countless militaria and antique shows, I can never just label something as wrong. Rather go with not sure, I'll bet it was a military jacket though. If I recall correctly, the one on Ebay had a decent story to it.
