One of the last surviving veterans of the Battle of Britain, Flt Lt Maurice Moundson, has died, aged 101. His death means, according to FlyPast magazine, that only three of The Few remain alive.
From the notice on FlyPast's website, posted on 9 December:
"One of the last four veterans of the Battle of Britain has died, aged 101. Flt Lt Maurice Mounsdon flew Hawker Hurricanes with 56 Squadron in 1940. After destroying or damaging several German aircraft, he flew his last sortie of the battle on August 31. Tasked with intercepting a group of German bombers, his fighter was badly damaged during the fray. Maurice baled out at around 14,000ft (4,267m) and survived, although he sustained serious burn injuries that required lengthy treatment. In later life, he settled on the Spanish island of Menorca – the Red Arrows staged a flypast over the coast to mark his 100th birthday in 2018. Maurice’s death means that only three of Churchill’s Few are now living – Flt Lt William Clark, aged 100, Wg Cdr Paul Farnes, 101, and Fg Off John Hemingway, 100. "

I'll be raising my glass to this man tonight.

This was talked about the other day in the "Dude of the Day" thread Lorenzo. Have a look over there.

Thanks for pointing this out, Smithy, I missed that post. And apologies for double-posting!
When it comes to BoB and WW2 air war matters, this is a most attentive crowd!

No problem Lorenzo, it's good because there's less than a handful left now so it's probably even more important to keep them in our minds.
