Now this is an impressive amount of firepower

"We were pissed off at taking Viet Cong sniper fire from the mountain above us several nights in a row,' Hensinger, now 66 and living outside Denver, Colorado, recalls."

No doubt.

Stunning photos. All that firepower in response to a lone man with a rifle, and with no definitive outcome. If there was ever an allegory for that war...this is it.

What would you do? Have you ever been in that situation? One lone sniper can cause alot of damage.
Finding a sniper in 'lush jungle foliage' ain't easy.
Often more quickly effective to throw out enough firepower to chop up 'everything in the general vicinity' (including him)rather than dick around searching for a needle in a hay stack..while he continues to pick off your buddies.

Exactly the same thing. I was not in any way suggesting that was not the correct course of action.

It just struck me how much the firepower we used cost compared to a few 30 round magazines from an AK. It was also interesting to read in the article what Hensinger thought about the officer who picked the location for that firebase.
