One of our members in good standing who has put out a lot of great jackets at reasonable prices.

I have to say, I have NEVER seen period leather like that before! If you wonder what one really looked like new, that's it! I think JC has hit it!

Yes! I'm getting nervous even thinking that someone might just consider pulling the trigger. For $3 in eBay fees I was just trying to test myself to see if some amount of $$$ would make me comfortable letting go of this Perry, and I'm getting sick at the thought. I had the camera out already for taking pics of other jackets I was listing and decided to take pics of the Perry as well. They ended up coming out very nicely, so I thought I would put it out there in a ridiculous way to test myself a bit. I also thought it would be interesting to see what sort of low ball offers might come through as well, but I don't have the stomach for it, so I will be ending the auction early. I'm thinking that all the money in the world is not going to make me part with the jacket, and now I know for sure that's the case! :D

By the way, John has certainly hit the mark for sure. There still seems to be a bit of difference in that the originals sported leather with higher fat content making (at least this one) many of them a lot softer and more pliable in a way that I have yet to see on any reproductions. John will tell you himself that the tanning processes were closely guarded secrets and that the art has been lost over of the years. He goes to great lengths to find the good horsehide and goatskins, but there are only so many suppliers out there. The craftsmanship he has mastered though!

George is fully aware that mint Perry A2s are as rare as hens' teeth. Yes the price is high, but there may well be a collector out there prepared to pay what he is asking. The only downside is the lack of a spec label and normally A2s without a label sell for around a third less than similar jackets with them. I have a size 44 Perry in similar condition and agree the leather is wonderful-soft with character. Good luck with it George.

This post crossed with George's. It really is a great jacket and I do hope you keep it. What else are you plannning to sell?

I'm going through the inventory trying to figure out what NOT to sell. That's left me with a "harem" of lovelies, each with a super compelling reason to keep. The one you have in your profile picture has been the major regret still! If I still had it and not you, I would refuse $10,000 to part with it. That one still burns a hole in me, but I have to grudgingly admit that it fits you way better than it fit me. But the lesson that transaction taught me will last a lifetime! This mock sale is just for me to collect a few more data points to solidify my philosophy in terms of what should or should not be sold. But it's all fun and insightful for me. ;)

Just ended the auction. I was getting nervous with it out there. I was hoping to see a few offers out of pure curiosity, but I feel better now! :D
