Nice old German Bike Jacket

I think this particular jacket did see Luftwaffe use, a 100% certainty if it came from the same estate as the fleece one.

This may not be the case as there is no proof it saw action beyond the two wheeled road variety! 99% of so called Luftwaffe jackets never saw action and sadly too often German sellers claim otherwise to inflate the auction price.

As I say, if it's part of the grouping and it came with that photo, I think it is indeed a jacket from a JG26 pilot.
The seller is not connected to Colvinex and his aliases and his fake button sewing efforts !
Needs an inspection in person really.

I didn't see the wartime photo initially and agree it could be one of the 1% of real Luftwaffe jackets.

It's a bit like the drugs trade, the money involved is so large some can't resist a bit of doctoring.
A new word has been invented here "dinaczyfiet" :p

The jacket seen in the b&w photo is not the same jacket as the listing. The more obvious problems: the wartime photo does not have shoulderboards, their attachment buttons, or the breast eagle. There are differences with the actual jacket, as well.

This is pretty obvious but just because someone has placed a French cycling jacket in the same picture as two original jackets does not make the cycling jacket a wartime item. The jackets shown cover the entire span of the war. Doesn't it strike anyone as odd that these have very little wear on them? Or that the wear patterns on the cycling jacket are predominantly on the lower chest rather than the shoulders and/or arms?

Sorry. This is a nice vintage French jacket but very doubtful this was ever a Luftwaffe jacket. Just my 2p.

IMO, another postwar motorrad jacket.

Some great research work by the seller though  . I was never good enough to determine what size buttons were used purely by the stitchholes left on the jacket!

Kind of baffled that he couldn't figure out what glued on patches were there

I'm continually amazed at the gullibility of folks on eBay. So desparate to have a Luftwaffe leather jacket that every/any glaring error is glossed over under the guise of "variant" or "hey, it's private purchase". Sellers love to put up wartime photos with their listings. They never match the jacket for sale, of course, but are close enough that folks bid. "It must be period because it vaguely looks like the jacket in the listing"

Velveton was used well into the 1960s. So were the huge remaining stocks of zippers and snaps produced during the war. Many of the same remained in production for decades afterwards.

I've said this before but your chances of finding a true, untouched example of a Luftwaffe used, french-made cycle jacket are about zero. Conversely, your chances of being sold a badged-up, imposter are near 100%.

You can still buy Prym snaps in good haberdashers.
