Nice Looking Original A-2 Rough Wear on eBay

Re: Nice Looking Original A-2 on the Bay - original? contrac

rw, most likely the first pre war rw hh contract, as that contract is the only one with the more pointed pocket flaps. later contracts had the more rounded, softer curved pocket flaps. to bad it has some cracking, and holes. however, those areas shown can be reinforced from behind. the rest of the hides look ok, but this is one of those classic situations where you have to have the jac in hand to really see what the hide condition is.

It's either the 16159 contract or the 1401-p. The slightly more pointed pocket flaps were a feature of the first contract, but I have seen them on the 1401-p. The lack of label, replaced zip and damage to the hh will affect the price, but the leather appears to be strong and the jacket could be a wearer.

this seems like a pretty nice wearer. I am sure there will be a last minute push. I retracted my high bid yesterday. I might regret it but enough original jacket purchases lately to justify this one for me and :? I have a GW Werber coming in Oct :p

Go for it guys ...................................

I think this one is a 1401-P.

I agree George. The 1401-p contract was most likely larger than the 16159 contract and there are more of the former contract around.

The knits look original, so it appears that the mileage may just be poor storage over the years, but then there's the lining separation, so maybe it had moderate duty. I think some pecards would make it a nice wearer for sure. It's tough to figure out which ones to buy and which ones to let go, especially if they're on the margins of either quality (low) or price (high). When to wait and when to go for it is the proverbial question. The 16159 was definitely a go for it all the way specimen, so that was an easy one (especially for someone whose VLJ moniker is Roughwear!). Decisiveness got Andrew a fabulous deal, but also a fabulous jacket regardless of price. But then again, sometimes it's the ones on the fringes that turn out to be better than expected that provide the real collector's rush. When you unpack the box and say to yourself, "Wow! I can't believe I made such a great decision on this one!" Isn't that worth almost 10, "Oh, crap!" s? I have a feeling that this one is going to be closer to the former than the latter though!

agreed 100% actually, I had retracted my bid but checked in before and the bids were still low so I tossed one in that looks like the runner up bid. No matter - I am covered. I ordered a nice military watch instead. ;)
