Re: Nice 1964 L-2B in size large with insignias

Nice jacket with the coveted C&C/Crown zips. The patches are cool but I'm curious what our USAF vets think of the configuration. I have my doubts given its vintage . . .

I think the patches might be original to something, but not to this jacket. When a patch and a jacket have be wed together for many years, they develop a certain patina that is lacking here. Hard to define...but you know it when you see it.

Additionally, the lineage of the (in the era of this jacket) 9th Strategic Aerospace wing raises questions:

A jacket manufactured pursuant to an April 1964 contract would obviously not be available for issue until some time thereafter. Could this particular jacket have made it into an airman's hot little hands in time to be patched like this before the unit began phasing out in December 1965? If so, would the insignia be configured in this seemingly outdated (by the mid-1960s) arrangement?

I know exactly what you mean, and this jacket doesn't have it.

Hi,
Does not feel right to me either, this L-2b sold late night and I'm sure its 100% right, I watched it till it tipped over the $300 mark.

Stu, that's a beauty! Blue Anchor A, or perhaps Tops Apparel B? Either way I note that the serviceman's name appears over the left breast as seems to be custom.

Hi Jim,
Yes it was a Tops, the unit was based in Japan, so you get great custom patches, never seen this patch anywhere else. I picked up a 1957 Fruhauf flight suit that I've been looking for a while instead.
