New ELC broken grain D-1s

It was only a matter of time, looks like all of their US shearlings are getting the same makeover. I would keep a close eye on the Re-issue depot for a while, I'll bet they sell off all the current stock at reduced price just like with the ANJ-4 and B-3s. The B-6 shouldnt be far behind either.

wrinkly and dehydrated, looks like crushed paper.
the right sleeve has been twisted to get a confession out of it!
i think they are overdoing it, a nice grainy hide looks much better.

I must say...I don't care for the looks of it. doesn't look nearly as robust as normal sheepskin.
Maybe seeing it it person..it might look better.

I'm sure it's just the photos make it look less robust. Personally, I think it looks great, very like an original.

Looks horrible ... NOT a great promo shot for the jacket ... sleeves look like the paper that get's stuffed into gift bags.

Perhaps since the shearling is less thick, the leather may be far more prone to that type of wrinkle.

I'd like to do my own "wearing in" thank you very much ... and I wonder how long before ELC begins to offer BOTH versions again.

Maybe it's a play on the old "New Coke" ... "Classic Coke" campaign from years ago ... anyone remember that one?

Gotta agree with you Peter- does look like old shearling.

I like the look of that, if the finish of the leather is like that they did on their 'beat-up' B-2 caps then it works really well, can't wait to see a B-6 now!

Slightly miffed about it in the sense that Gary insisted that there would be no more broken finish jacket for a while. He was negative about the RW series, so who knows ?

I have to say that I prefer to break my jackets in myself (or someone else if buying second-hand). Nothing else looks quite right IMVHO.

I can't help but think that this finish would be better offered as an option. They may loose customers if it's not to every one's liking.
I don't think the Vintage Finish Irvin is an improvement on their original offering.

I agree with that John. It seems as if Eastman are not actually offering more options on leather types so much as a different leather. Not necessarily better.

And no matter how you treat the hide before or after jacket manufacture, it still won't give you the heaviest wear where it would be if you wore the jacket. Although for some it might be a better starting point.

Absolutely agree with John, ... but I believe that they should offer EVERYTHING in BOTH finishes..

Give the customer the choice...
