This is either the second or third time up for auction by the same individual.Used to have a BIN for $450 US I think.

The seller is being a bit sneaky here I reckon. It's listed as original but the fact that "Real McCoy" is in capitals suggests that he's naming the maker. An email would clarifiy things I guess but as Jim says, has anyone seen an XXL original ?

very rare XXL that is for sure. Been around for awhile it seems as you can see the ghosting of another USAF stencil being applied to the jacket. the label looks to be the real "McCoy", thread counts and stitching look good from the pics at least.

I don't buy it as original. Wear on snaps and shoulder decal not consistent with a mint looking tag. Hard to see, but the leather pull on sleeve pocket zipper doesn't look like it has much wear and again, not consistent with other parts of jacket.

I'm not up to speed on Real McCoy brand jackets or if they even made or still make the Lion MA-1. I have owned a Buzz Lion MA-1 in XX-Large along with original Lion MA-1 in EXTRA LARGE. Very tough to tell the differences between the original and repro. I did feel the Buzz Lion had wider sleeve ends than my original.

Just my opinion. ;)

Completely disagree, the seller states it's a Real McCoy (NZ-JP) version of the Lion MA-1. Korean War simply refers to the period that it is attempting to reproduce. My guess is that he may have confused it for a Buzz Rickson?

I must be blind as I don't see Real McCoy (NZ-JP) anywhere in the auction. :?

As I said, the seller is being sneaky and trying to cover all bases. It's listed as original but also Real McCoy. I reckon it's a BR.

Been collecting nylon for some time now. I've never seen an original XXL MA-1. I'm a size 46-48 and original XLs fit nicely, thank you...so I'm thinkin' an original XXL MA-1 would have to be larger than size 46-48.

Come to think of it, though, I would dearly love to find an original XXL L2-B. Maybe it would be long to cover my fat ass.

That's what I was thinking, David, but have we ever seen XX-Large in an original item of this vintage?

The specs are reproduced in Suit Up, Jim ... just five sizes, Small to Extra Extra Large. I guess the largest size was made in smaller quantities.

Although they may fit larger because of the more relaxed cut, the XXL size replaced the size 46 B-15 series.

Here's a modern MA-1 chart from as army surplus site, apart from the two extra sizes, it seems to match up ...

  • Extra Small 34-36" Chest
    Small 36-38" Chest
    Med 38-40" Chest
    Large 40-42" Chest
    XLarge 42-44" Chest
    XXLarge 44-46" Chest
    XXXLarge 46"-48"

More likely it's BR not RMJP.
The only thing you can tell the different is the hanger inside the jacket.
BR uses box and not goes all the way to the shell on the back under collar and RMJP go all the way through the shell.
And on originals...?

Anyway both has a reproduction label inside the pocket.
Indeed. Perhaps a simple question to the seller would clear up the mystery? Though it would also take away the fun for those of us trying to ID the jacket!
