Dunkeswell is near me. It's a remote place in the middle of the countryside.
Some of the aircrew must of had quite a quiet war patrolling far out into the Atlantic on anti-submarine patrols.
Some never saw a single U-boat.
"They also serve who only stand and wait..."
This is the site of the Dunkeswell Museum, dedicated to the RAF and AAF ASW units as well as the Navy's FAW-7.

Sobering statistics: 6,400+ missions in 2 years. 183 killed. Total subs sunk? Five, and a partial credit for four more.
Nine subs in all those missions. Must have driven the guys stir crazy.

What is Mac wearing under his jacket? Looks like Working Blues with Working Greens. Was that done?

Another thing...I'm told commissioned airedales were NEVER EVER allowed to take the grommets out of their dress caps, and as a result, they weren't worn in flight. Any pix show differently?
