Hello,

A friend of mine has this M-422a H&L Block. Would it be possible to know his year with the contract number? The zipper is a Talon.

M-422a were made between 1941-1943, as per this particular one is surely not from 1941 because in 1942 the wider left pocket was eliminated and an inset welt pencil pocket was added like in this represented model.

I'm not usually a fan of naval jackets as I don't particularly like the mouton collars, but the colour and patina of this one is really appealing.

Gone, but not forgotten.
The H & L Block contract was the last for the M-422A, and dates from fiscal year 1943.

I thought only Gordon and Ferguson used the wider left pocket?
Even JC's M-422 repro seems ot have a pencil slot.

Yes I believe that G&F was the only 422a with the larger pocket.
