I couldn't resist pulling the trigger as I don't believe I have an example of this contract. The jacket appears to be sporting an older version of the Civil Air Patrol Emergency Services patch.

Thanks for pointing this out! :D

Glad you got it, Jim ... let us know how it works out.

I almost bought it this morning. In the end I left it, as I figured that by the time I'd politely asked the seller if he'd mind shipping to NZ, and come back home for the reply, it would already be sold.

I blame eBay ... they use to list Australasia as a region for shipping, but apparently it confused some sellers.

I always think it's best to avoid sellers who write things like "It is illegal for us to mark merchandise value below value or mark them as "gifts" and therefore, we will not do so" on their listings. To me this makes no sense; how can it be illegal? Surely no item has a set value that cannot be changed.

Thanks, David--and fear not. If for some reason it doesn't work for me, I can assure you that I don't mind shipping to NZ. :D

Very nice snag Jim. That's a difficult to find E model Skyline. This E model with same 15 Dec '61 tag in Medium sold for $325 back in Oct 2007.

Thanks, Danny! I hope it's as nice as it looks in the picture. At first the patch had me fooled until I realized it could be CAP, then I figured it out quickly. I can see why the jacket in your photo brought a high price. The Voodoo patch is eye-catching! I'm not sure I ever posted it here, but back in 2006 I snagged a '64 L-2B (can't recall the maker) in Medium with the same sleeve patch but no other insignia for $90. As it was too small for me I sold it, but it didn't bring much of a profit. I guess you just never know . . .

The Voodoo patches can price all over the place as they made lots of them. The jacket in the photo that I posted was apparently/used (or made up  ) as a maintenance jacket by evidence of the Voodoo Medicine Man patch. Your L-2B collection is getting out of control!

Come to think of it, mine had the Voodoo "Witch Doctor" (flight surgeon?) patch.

BTW, didn't my collection get out of control years ago?

The jacket arrived today and it's in really fantastic shape apart from evidence of the removal of prior insignia, which could likely be improved on with a cool iron and some water. The knits are very clean and tight, and are perfect but for a tiny hole in the collar and one on each cuff. Length is sensible, with the nylon shell ending just below the natural waistline and the knits extending to the hipbones. Although the CAP patch is cool, I feel that the prior stitch holes call for making this jacket a patch project. Either way, it's a beauty!

I am glad you are happy with the jacket. It looked too nice to be overlooked. I always look for mis titled jackets and pass them down to you guys. I don't even know how many L-2B's and other nylon jackets I have to be honest.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm sure you have quite a few, and I compliment your ability to track down the less common types such as the excellent Fruhauf "test pilot" example that remains in my collection. As far as my numbers are concerned, I'm not exactly sure either but between traditional nylon and the CWU series it's around 50 and climbing:

Add in the various other cold-weather, deck, field, flight, and leather jackets and the total must certainly exceed 100--if you don't count the Ikes and uniform tunics. :?

Now that is a great jacket! I would consider that a "score of the week" on VLJ. Often in period photos you can see pilots and ground crew in PX bought head-wear. Hell, you would even see pictures of ex pilots and ground crew wearing their old issued jackets and caps. That would be justification enough to snap up this super nice cap to wear with a nylon issued first series jacket.

Better hurry - not much time left.
