Found this terrifiic shot also at that USAF site. I have attempted over the last two years to recreate caps like those they are wearing. Love the N-2Bs on the backs of their chairs.

Can't edit...too late, so the N-2B jacket designation should have been N-2A. They're blue, not sage.

Always loved the N-2A. I had a near mint example of a C.H. Maslands. Too big for me and I sold it. The C.H. Maslands are most plentiful and many near mint and mint examples can be found for under $300. Drybak is a little more difficult, but still plentiful. The more rare contracts (Aviators Clothing Co, S.H. Knopf, Reed & Monarch) that I'd like to own had real coyote fur and some with even Crown zippers.

I believe the middle N-2A with dark brown mouton is a Aviators Clothing Co or Reed. Difficult to find in any condition these days. ;)

This Knopf N-2A with the dark-tipped ruff appears very similar to the jackets on the right side of the photo. But I always thought the ruff on my jacket was made of badger fur.

Geoff, I remember your N-2A when you got it and it is indeed a nice and more rare contract. I think its still up to debate as to whether or not the fur such as the one on your N-2A is rear or faux badger fur. Hard to believe them using faux fur back then, but as you know it sure feels like some kind of plastic material. Could also very well be real badger fur as their coat is very course.

I've always understood that artificial fur was indeed used on many blue parkas, including the N-2A I once owned. This was proven unsuccessful due to the tendency of the artificial fur to freeze, hence the switch back to real fur--at least for awhile.

Full Gear notes synthetic fur trim for the Knopf, Dryback AF 29554, and Masland contracts.

I always spell Knopf wrong.

Good info. Someday I'll get me a copy of that book. ;)

I think Aviators Clothing made some with synthetic fur too. Most of theirs were real though from what I've seen. Don't think I've seen a synthetic Monarch or Reed N-2A.
