I've never seen a suit like that. The Mustang looks to have no guns so maybe it's for high altitude photo recon ?

Hello,

Thank you for this nice picture Marcel.

The man wears a B-9 parka, A-9 or A-10 trousers, and a pair of mukluks or survival overshoes.
This protection against the cold could match with a photo recon pilot and the P-51 without guns, flying at very high altitudes.

Gone, but not forgotten.
The photo also appears on page 5 of Combat Flying Clothing. Sweetings caption begins One of the improved types of Winter flying outfits introduced during 1943 consisted of the Types B-11 Jacket, and A-10 trousers ....

The A-10 trousers are recognisable by the pocket placement. The B-11 jacket was alpaca lined, which we can't see, and it doesn't have the knitted cuffs, which in this case are covered by gloves ... otherwise the B-9, and B-11 appear identical.

The B-11 parka. Only bettered by the D-1 parka. Oh to get either in a decent size .

An early pair of mukluks to. Wonder if they were the blue version ..........
