Simple, the label is not correct for an issue jacket. Not even close. Here's a real, albeit very faded one. It has a size in inches, Navy Department wording plus a contract number. You see now ?

Living on Cape Cod by the Mass Maritime Academy, I must have found 30 of these in 10 years and of several different types. A very rare blue one, worth over a grand, most OD's did have the USN stamp but not always, and I'm sure that type of tag was on a few of them. Possibly post war, I'm no expert on these jackets, but probably contracted for the Navy or even Merchant Marines. The lining on this one is not the typical dark brown Alpaca used in WW2, so I think maybe a post war version using synthetic gray, found many of those as well. Just my thoughts based on actually finding these jackets on a regular basis, I would buy them in the condition you wouldn't wipe a floor with, just to pull off the zipper and buttons for 5 bucks.
