I am not 100% sure on this one. I have seen this version before in several 390th BG vets groups...always unused like this one. Am not sure if or when they wore it....meaning there is a possibility it is a early reunion piece....I just don't know.
Over the years, I have seen several A-2's with a different version of this patch....where the center part is cut out with scrolls denoting the unit on the top and bottom. One of those jackets was a friend of mine's father's....and I knew that one was 100%.
That all said, I suspect that this patch is probably an original from WW II, but I would have to do some asking around and further research to know for sure. Some squadron patches can hard to nail down unless you track them, but this is not one that has been on my radar.
