I made myself an A1 jacket

in soft, thin capeskin. How is it ? The pocket photo with flash light & my self portrait is more true to color - russet brown. I would have wished the lower hem just above the waistband be wider by 3-4cm- that would look more period correct.

outstanding! sometimes i have to ask myself, "are these different types of jackets really easy to make, or do we happen to have some of the most talented leathersmiths in the world, right here as members of the vlj, that make it look easy"

If I was being hyper critical then I would say your cut always at the bottom of the chest pocket look a little bit more pronounced than the original. Having said that, I would have been very happy if I had parted with my own cash for your jacket.

Well done that man !

Nice job! They aren't hard to make but they are hard to make well. There are a lot of how a pattern works and 'order of operation' things that lengthen the learning curve.

Awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!! I suppose you could start a bussiness.
Originals always seem to be worn with a tie though….

We wear the jackets with jeans and such so we do not wear an official uniform so no tie needed . I think that he could start a business as Geeboo certainly has an eye for detail and is willing to be guided along with what he misses ,which is not much .

No doubt about it. Geeboo could easily be the next new repro maker onnVLJ. He’s got an amazing eye for detail and his production skills are very good. I would definitely consider buying a jacket from him if he decided to go in that direction.

Hi guys
I feel deeply honored & am very happy about all yours +ve comments as I considered all of you are vintage leather jacket wizards - not ordinary jacket players.
Just a side talk, the enclosed right side is my 1st version, which is exactly the same jkt as the jkt on the left with just the pocket flap's shape changed.
Most of the historic pics in fact showed a more slanted flap as opposed to the more rectangular flap. However, after some struggle, I have asked my tailor to change back to what more commonly perceived as what an A1 pocket slap "should" look like, i.e same shape as the original specimen shown in Eastman web-page or book & 2 more specimen I can locate.

no the same - just lighting. The true color of the knit & the leather is like the right side above or in my self portrait - the knits are not not deep chocolate brown as shown in the 1st photo.

A detail missing from any repro is the "angle-in" of the collar, seen only on early button-waist versions.
When worn laid flat, the leading edges sit parallel to the horizontal. These were, btw, single-button closures.
