My point is it takes such little effort to do something correct!!!I don't have any problem with the repair to the liner but the knit work?????Wrong waist band and the cuffs don't match.Might as well just left what was on there and let the new owner fix them.Might be nit picking but the ribrack knit is one of the items that make it visually different....It would be the same as putting a rib rack on an A-2!Just my 2 cents!!!

It has been pointed out to me by one of our top notch members(and I mean the TOP of this little heap that is VLJ) that there where not 1 but 3 companies who used the A-2 type of waist knits on their jackets!!!!So let me bow down and beg your forgiveness if I have insulted anyone here with my remarks............still would be nice if they matched.................

In your defense, while the F.Ostermann did originally sport the "a-2" style waistband it was a reddish/purplish color and surely it would not be difficult to match the cuffs and waistband...plus considering the value of the jacket, at try dying them to come closer to the original...My 2 cents

Whether the owner utilized a single rib rack or folded style waist band it seems to me that even after using the best available source for a waist band it would be wrong. As looking through those original examples from this same M-422A maker show that those FO waist bands exhibits different upper and lower ribbing.

In this case, Ties indicated that this FO viewtopic.php?f=19&t=7556 still had it's original waist band and that MASH cuff knits used as replacements were a perfect color match to those existing & original folded waist knits. However, those same replacement MASH waist band knits lack that different top and bottom ribbing as seen on this original FO M-422A's waist bands. Those original style waist knits used on the FO M-422A simply do not exist.

As in this case at best sometimes it is difficult to restore certain jackets with original looking materials and one must do the best with those materials that are available. As this owner may have done in replacing those knits which look to me to be a folded & a non M-422A single rib rack waist band as originally intended .

Not to mention, Roger Moore's website features one of these same sized FO M-422A behemoths http://moorecustom.com/jackets/M-422a_FO_48.htm . All things considered, if it was not such a large sized jacket I might have even considered owning it :D .

Just my take on it!

Cheers, Dave
