Browsing the wonderful Life photos I came across these Austrian WW1 sailors in gas protection gear....like some Doctor Who nightmare, scary!

BTW, it was Austria-Hungary at the time and included parts of Czechoslovakia, Croatia, Italy, Poland, western Ukraine...
Their fleet was in the Adriatic. They lost the seaport territory after WW1 and, with it, their navy.
Their CinC, Adm. Horthy, lost his job but soon was installed as dictator of all Hungary - and remained so till 1944.
I think Hungary was the only country run by an admiral, unless you count the week in '45 when Doenitz sat in for Hitler.
