hi all
Went to Silvermans in London's East end today (they are an Army surplus etc) to make a purchase and spotted a few used Cooper A2's, a couple of G1's (not brilliant) that I was told he just had shipped over from the US and a pretty decent 'Cockpit' horsehide 23rd Fighter Group patched A2, size 42" - gotta say it didn't look too bad either. The leather chest patch and blood chit on the reverse looked pretty good as did the shoulder patches and I reckon with a bit of aging might come up OK and at approx £300 (he'd only just go it in so wasnt totally sure of the cost), far, far cheaper than the ELC version if you are on a low budget!!
Anyone interested they are:-

Er actually no.........although my size it did look smaller than the 42 stated plus I'm not in the market for 'in my book' an inferior jacket to those I have and as much as I love the look of patched jackets, wearing them out is another matter. It's just me I think, I sort of feel self-concious! I have an ELC 1401 patched very nicely with tooled leather 12th AF, 319th FS, 320th FG but I just dont wear it for that reason (did try selling a few months back with no takers!!
Just thought this was pretty nice for the budget.

Cheers

I think many people feel the same. I've bought patched jackets and patched up jackets myself knowing full well that I probably won't wear them, the only exception being a faded M-51 field jacket with original Nam era patches. It looked subtle enough to be a regular wearer.

Oddly, I do have an M41 that I patched as 77th FS inc 8th AF woven shoulder patch, that I do wear - I'd even though about stencelling something on the back! I think with leather patched/painted jackets I have a little concern they may come over to the unknowing observer as being like those horrrible Avirex abominations from a few years back!!

cheers
