I recently purchased a HD jacket on ebay. Double breasted, old cycle king style. The snaps are coins, nickles and quarters. anyone have an idea when these coins were used on jackets? thanks. opr1945

Please post a few close up photos of your jacket and we might be able to help you out with it.

dimes on epelets, nickles on snaps, quarter in zippo pocket. I think label logo is fairley recent.

note belt, embossed eagle on back. very soft leather. non removable lining. snaps for fur coller I thnk.

While I’m guessing a bit here , I’d say if you want to date this particular jacket it would be better to focus on the components and construction of the jacket as opposed to the coins. I would ask what year the coins are dated as this might give you a general time frame of production . I recall seeing these coin concho jackets back in the 70s from Harley Davidson, but that’s the best I can offer. So what do the coin dates say?

never thought to look. LOL. ones that have dates nickles 1946 & 1947. dimes 1936 & 1942. never thought to look. LOL.

Interesting coin dates . Does it mean the jacket’s that old.., I really doubt it but more research required I guess .

If all else fails here, I’m pretty sure HD has a historical department that might be able to date it for you.

At the first sight it looks to be a modern jacket, definitely not a vintage one. What's on that small tag which is sewn right in collar seam (I mean that small teg which is right next to size tag "42")?

it's a modern jacket. Probably 80's or 90's.

!990s to 2005 in that range probably made in Korea .Harley went in for this boutique thing around that time jackets hats hemets sweat shirts blah blah blah .The coins ar made in china and are not real you can buy them at any leather crafting place .These would of been fitted on the jacket when made for HD its just a look .

small tag says made in Korea. being made in Korea and with the embossing on pocket I didn't think it was real old like WW2 vintage. but curious none the same. if it was made in 1990 it would be old enough to get an antique license plate here in Michigan.

Rejoining an old conversation - I've recently acquired the same jacket as the OP, but with standard H-D snaps rather than coins.

I've definitely identified mine as a Cycle King from approx 1991 with part number 98108-90VM according to the 1991 clothing guide (relevant page below). I have three questions:

1) What leather specifically (e.g. steerhide, cowhide) and what quality of leather (eg. full grain, top grain) is this made from? There is what appears to be a noticeable scar in the skin which maybe means full...
2) There are four snaps for a fur collar - are these available from anywhere as an original HD piece to match, rather than having to measure up and have a custom one made?
3) is it known which company made these for Harley Davidson in Korea at this time?
