Happy VE Day! This 1945 Ever Ready Desk Calendar in my collection was Army Col. Howard Ayers SR WWII Personal Property. Col Ayers was a then Major in the U.S. Army working in the General Douglas MacArthur camp and handwritten on the page is when he was notified of VE Day (“Notice Received 1019”)

Crikey, I can't even attempt to think what might have gone through people's heads back then, a real mix bag of emotions that's for sure.

I cherish this photo of some of my mothers family and their neighbours celebrating VE Day, it is so of its time. One of my uncles is giving some to the V for victory sign for which he received a sore backside later ....despite Churchill sometimes doing it that way round sometimes

Every 8th of May most people here fly the Norwegian flag out the front of their houses. The day still means a lot for people in countries such as this one which were under German occupation. I think it hardly got a mention back in NZ and Oz, then again we have our big day just a couple of weeks earlier on the 25th April with ANZAC Day.

But I had the Norwegian flag proudly flying out the front yesterday!
