Goatskin Californian Half Belt

Hey all!

I had the luck of tracking down this Californian Brand Washable Goatskin leather jacket in near immaculate condition. Besides the dull smell of cigarette smoke and some light discoloration to the liner, there’s not really any problems. Unfortunately of course it doesn’t fit me. It appears to be really well made.

Do you guys have an idea of the date on this brand? Any knowledge would be great! Thanks.

I’m not particularly familiar with that design, but the buttons are 1940s buttons. However, the zipper is a 50s zipper. Go figure! Californian made jackets for monkey ward, sears, and others under their name or the mail order catalog name, by way of sub contracting. Point being, that design may be in an old sears or other catalog.

looks like 2 or 3 different types of buttons. period replacements, some of them? the plain domed one is a 30s button. the others? I would venture to guess that button designs of the same type were introduced in the 40s and used through the 50s. my faves are the slightly rimmed plain domed colt fire arms buttons circa 1920s-early 30s. they have become very hard to find in 3/4" size. I believe they were called Yale, or Harvard, or some such, as all of the colt buttons were named after universities.

Thanks! This is great. I saw in a past thread that they used to have actor’s names attributed to the different designs. It seems to be a pretty well constructed jacket.

Might be an earlier design. Withdrawing my bet.
