USN pierced windflap on a M422A? looks quite strange. I'm no expert, but it doesn't sound ok to me

The jacket is not a G&F M422A, but a 1950s G-1 which is suffering from rot. BTW the zip is a replacement.

Looking at the pics of the jacket again it does have the G&F pen pocket and other details. The USN punched on the windflap may well have been done in the 1950s when the jacket may have been rebuild in a USN depot.

Looking closely at some of the photos, I thought I saw what looked like over stitching, not just for the zipper, as if certain parts had been replaced or resewn. As part of that I thought maybe the windflap had been added from another (later pattern) jacket.
Would they have bothered punching the wind flap for a depot rebuild, or even bother rebuilding such a jacket at the time punching USN became common, late '50s? I'd think they'd surplus the jacket then.
It's certainly a possibility though that it was punched in a depot rebuild. I suppose the windflap could also have been punched by a previous owner.
