G+F jacket?

This auction is listed as an AN-J-3A AN-6552 jacket but with it's wide left pocket appears to be a G+F M-422a. no label. Odd size tag at neck. Is it a USN rebuilt jacket?

It's a Gordon & Ferguson pocket, but since it wasn't an official requirement, wouldn't all their G-1 style jackets have this feature? They also made civilian market jackets under contract.

It was my understanding G+F only used that wide pocket for the M-422a jackets, changing the pocket for subsequent nomenclature jackets. Maybe this is incorrect.

When and for who did G+F make civilian versions with the wide pocket under contract?

So, this jacket on auction could be a civilian jacket. Could be a USN refit.

Karl Ort state in their 1936 catalogue that all their jackets are made by G & F. I don't know how long this arrangement lasted, but other year Ort catalogues show A-2 jackets. I haven't seen a G-1 style illustrated, and I don't know whether G & F also supplied other distributers.

This is a typical M-422A US Navy depot refurb. It looks like they kept the original sunburst Talon zipper but changed the slidder (the top left staple is brass while the other one is the original nickel staple.

I found some detail pictures of a 1945 G & F second contract AN-J-3A ... yes, the pocket detail has gone.

thanks

So it is most likely a refit jacket. They did an interesting patch on the arm over the seam. Probably a piece from a N/S jacket.
