G-1 reproduction companies

Hey everyone, I was digging around the forum and I found a list of all the reputable a2 repro brands. I know some of them also make g1's. Now I've been wondering if there's any companies I missed? I'm not necessarily looking for a new g1, but if I find an interesting repro, I know I won't resist.

To start off, there is five star and I think they can scratch the itch, but I'm not sure if I want to go with a second 55j14 repro (because it's very tight around the waist, which looks good but not as comfortable as the 7823 models.)

There's Eastman, but not sure I want to sell my kidney for one of those.

Aeroleather, which is also a little out of my price range.

Gibson and Barnes makes a very nice g1.

Cockpit USA (if you consider them to be g1's, I know some don't see cockpit as a reputable repro).

Us wings makes a few g1's

Shcott still makes them too.

I think I named quite a few? I'm sure I'm missing a few brands and this is why I wanted your input. I haven't seen any g1 repros that actually look like g1's from back in the days? Most companies have a very thick pointy collar (now I'm sure theres some contracts that did have this feature), but based on all the pictures of original g1's, there's not many airmen that I've seen with those big and thick fur collars... Maybe it's just me and I'm not educated enough on the matter? Basically what I'm asking is, if there's a company that makes a descent g1 7823 replica with a small rounded honey colored fur collar in the 500-600us price range? Because after all that research I have a feeling I'm back to fivestar, Eastman or aero. Correct me if I'm wrong on any of this, I'm still very new to the jacket world.

Also you might say that I'd need to go for an original. And you'd be right... However I already have a size 44 and it fits me small... Ideally I'd need a 48 or 46.. I'm tall and those old jackets just can't do it for my size. I'm actually giving away my original Ralph Edwards to a pilot colleague of mine because he's shorter and it fits him like a glove.

Hi
If you want an original G-1 jacket, I would suggest looking at the gulf war era jackets . They are a bit longer in the torso . Of course the choice is all your but I would go with an original whenever possible over a repro. Here’s a photo of a newer original

This seems like a good idea! Do you know if any recent originals have a light colored collar? They "honey"/gold fur? I really prefer that look to the dark brown. Or maybe it's possible to just send it to a company (like five star) and have them exchange it for the color I need?

You're missing 3 huge players.

Goodwear leather
Sheeley
and, most perfectly for you, Headwind Mfg.

Look at their new Honey collared Edmund T Church 422A.
650 USD too! Perfect for you.

No and here’s the problem . The G-1 jacket stopped using mouton for collars a number of years ago . They now use a man made product that doesn’t fade . So new jackets will never have faded collars .

That's bad news hahaha I guess if I go with that route I'll have to send it to a reputable company and ask for them to redo my collar for a real mutton one. Also what's the company name of the jacket you had on those pictures you just posted?

Yes you are correct!! I have been on the headwind website, they don't have that new one you're talking about just yet? I'm assuming it's coming soon based on the thread you just sent.

You're giving me something to consider here... Seems like a good idea, and then to install a new collar on it.
Well as Mayday Wei will attest , if you can go original , that’s the way to go . Repros will go down in value to some degree . Originals will usually go up in time .

Burt is absolutely right.
If the question was between an original and a repro. Go original.
But the question is limited to G-1 reproduction companies. ;)

No that’s the full name of the government contracting company that made the jacket .
“ Excelled Sheepskin and Leather Coat Company “
Oh, I see -- rather wordy, surprised the marketing department didn't have something to say about that. ;)
