No idea, but he is a militaria dealer, so it gives him incentive to say it's wartime.

This may be how the Japanese bought up all the interwar US gear - before dealers were even willing to handle it.

For me the jacket looks very similar to an ww2 u-boat jacket with the breast pocket and the two lower pockets.
Only the two button rows differ, and the collar too.

I do not know for sure, if bakelite buttons were used during ww1.

Would you were this coat in an Breguet AG4, an Albatros or Spad?
