Final Value FEES!!!

How nice! Are they making a lot more money for their shareholders now? Doubling the take is pretty extreme in terms of pricing increases.

That and of course Pay Pal is theirs too, also collecting more fees.

eBay's volume of listings/endings increases but that isn't enough for them.

ebay is the place to buy not to sell. They have become rather greedy with the fees. Factor in Paypal fees and currency charges and it's not worth it.

And I looked at all my inbox messages from them and didn't see any proactive notice announcing such a significant fee structure change! I guess the vast majority of their community wouldn't notice the thievery, but it sure feels underhanded when anybody does stuff like that. Yes, and they take 4% on Paypal in any case. Monopolies are wonderful things for their owners, just as the 19th century Robber Barons quickly figured out. If you wanted to ship your goods from Boston to NY and wondered why you had to pay 5 times more than doing so from NY to Chicago at one quarter the distance, you always had the option of carrying your wares yourself, I guess. Oh, yes, and by the way, the fare is going up another 40% tomorrow. So what are you gonna do about it, eh? Start your own online auction site?? Heh! Heh! I guess that Jackets are just as strong a category to start an online auction site as Pez dispensers, don't you all think? At least from now on I'm going to state outright that I'll end auctions early if VLJ members want to make direct offers whenever I post links here. That's the only real recourse for protest, however meager that is. I just hate it when one behaves as if the other had no options, even if it's truly the case, there should be some self restraint.

I am sure loads of good stuff that now gets sold is between trusted individuals that simply don't use ebay. There must be hundreds of forums where members buy and sell.

Just offer them here first at a slightly cheaper price...if there's no takers in a day or two then list on eBay. But yes, you can always pull the auction if you get a good offer, though cancelling bids to do so is generally considered bad form.

I hope that there are many forums that do indeed make such transactions possible. I hope to find a suitable way to maintain form and yet convey protest. No matter what, it always feels crappy to be on the wrong side of a monopoly.
