ELC A-2 Star: Spots With Fading Colour

Hi Everybody!
After a couple of weeks of light wear of my new ELC A2 Star (worn a handful of times - still cold-ish in Northern Italy these days) I've seen a couple of spots with fading color (both on the right arm, elbow and upper arm). I know that the jacket has to be worn to get some character etc (and im looking forward to it) but, to me, its kind of unusual that the color fades away so easily :? . What do you think? Thanks in advance for kind advice and regards, Carlo

One of these looks like a nick in the jacket. Happens sometimes no big deal. Wear like that on the other area can be normal. One of our form members Bevan makes it a work of art with his jackets.

Bevan's Aero has a double coated analine finish, and it is expected to wear more quickly, though Bevan certainly knows how to help it along. :D

Carlo's Star does look like it's had a minor scrape, but as George says ... it's no big deal.

I agree with George and David, its not damage sir this is character .The makers now are tuned into making the jackets with the view to making them wear in an accelerated fashion .The aim is to make the spray coating wear off to give you the 2 tone look ,spray coating and naked leather with the coating worn off .Seeing other makers delivering what the customer wants many companys are now following suit and keeping their fingers on the pulse to maintain their market share .This forum now shows factually what you get with a certain makers skin spray finish and effect .Having people higlighting popular product character makes buying what you want easier ,gone are the days of believing the factory and being happy with your jacket until to run into a better one on the street worn by someone else .The esscense of the what an A-2 is out of the hands of the manufacturing owners and is now with the knowledgable you and I .Sort of like burger king and if you do not listen we will not buy it . Carlo you probably did that scrape getting in and out of your jeep ,a lot of sharp edges on those jeeps .

Al the best Jeff

Horrible! Unfortunately, I had such problems in the '90s too. I immediately returned the jacket.

Not with an almost new jacket.... (quote:'worn a handful of times'). In my opinion, the jacket of 'wop54' has not been tanned well and that's why a release of the sprayed paint, because the bad tan-proces. The paint has not a good grip on the tanned bottom.

I dunno, looks like normal wear to me. My ELC Star has similar blemishes from my wearing it, and I haven't sent it back for any repairs.

The aniline dyed and lightly sprayed hides will exhibit this sort of wear (even my old Avirex has it), heavily dyed pieces like my old ELC 1401 show little pigment wear, just a lot of wrinkling and creasing.

Im not going to send it back for repairs either. I agree its no big deal.. As i said, i can't wait to see as my Star will be after a proper wearing. I just didn't expect to see these blemishes after a couple of week-ends (unfortunately climbing in a Fiat, not a Willys :( )
Cheers, Carlo

Long drop and tight squeeze into the driver's seat of a Fiat, think of it as the cockpit of a P-39! :)

Hi, Wop54,

Which style Cub is that one?

Wild guess - Legend Aero with the Jabiru Model AL11J-120?

Looks sweet.

Hi Bill!

I took the pic from an original italian article appeared on VOLARE magazine (March 2006, page 76-77-78)
(author Beppe Baschieri) heres the link:
http://glide.intercom.it/savage-f500-en.htm.
It is a Zlin Savage made in the Czech Rep. by the Zlin Aviation s.r.o. and comes with the Rotax 912.
The Fiat is a "500 L" (1972).

Cheers, Carlo

Of course that should go with out saying:) Really you have a very nice A-2 there. I have worked very hard to get some age on my 10 year old RMNZ A-2 and you already have the look. Enjoy you A-2. Robin
