Ebay Moan!

Several times a day when I check A2 and flight jacket searches I have to wade through pages of cheap A2 style jackets by an American seller called Portlandstation. Here is an example of the junk being repeatedly re-listed:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EXCELLED-USA- ... 1e9a8e282b

Not only do I get fed up seeing the same stuff being constantly re-listed but wonder why the seller is doing this as his jackets rarely sell. Listing fees must cost him a small fortune!

I feel the same way every time someone brings these to our forum. Ebay is the big crap market of the world like any swap meet is of a city, lets leave the crap there and show the cherries here.

He's probably not paying any fees. Ebay has been offering free re-listing lately.

He has had 136 sales the past month and 1616 sales the past 12 months. So must be making money out of it.

Bottom rung to every ladder out there.

Some guy has one of these "crap" jackets. He likes it, but wants something different or more authentic, so he comes to VLJ, etc, to get some good info on where to go next.

I don't know, maybe it's because I've been an instructor one time or another while I was in the military, but I like to teach people and seeing that "ah ha!" light bulb go off in their heads. Passing on knowledge is part of the fun. Some others enjoy busting their balls; whatever.

I'm with you, I've got a minute or two to write a guy some informative thoughts in the hopes that he may learn something or maybe revise his listing back to reality. And I've always got a minute for the sneaky dudes out there trying to fool people. Do I have even a minute to troll the Ebay crap market? there's so much of it out there I've got much better things to do. I end up on a silly post like this because the title is so vague. Perhaps we should add "Ebay crap to make fun of" to the index so most of us can just fly by. Sort of the same way I fly by the same old crap at the swap meet or on Ebay instead of letting it irritate me. Like this excelled jacket? wouldn't even look twice because the crap filter is always on.

Just looked into this guy a little more just in case I'm missing a good point or something and all I have to say is -

Huh :?: He's actually sold more jackets last month than I have in two decades. You ask why? because they are selling. Is it what we're looking for? I'll give you that and say not even close. That said, why does it irritate you fellers? This guy seems to have found a way of making money from the kind of jacket I cut up to make patches so KUDOS! to him. I know from experience that these jackets are the kind of thing found at a swap meet for 10-15 bucks and he's flipping them for ten times that and some much more. If he knew how much his Ebay activity bothered you guys, he'd have more to say than an eye roll. Maybe something like pull your panties out of the twist and get a hobby

BTW, I'm not trying to be offensive, just guy to guys saying "really?" in a funny way.

What annoys me is having to wade through his endless cheap jackets everyday when searching for potential gems!

I hear ya, there's a guy selling patches that buries my listings and does the same thing when I do a search for WW2 patches. Just gotta figure out how to fine tune your search maybe. If it was easy to filter out all the junk in this world I'd spend two minutes at the swap meet and walk out with my treasures instead of 3 hours and maybe a treasure. It's the thrill of the hunt for me I guess and every so often it pays off nicely.

you used to be able to exclude listings by users and keywords using the advanced search
